In 1985, Depp met future Twin Peaks star Sherilyn Fenn on the set of the student film Dummies. The couple dated for almost three years. During this time, they managed to star in a commercial together, and Depp in love even wrote the name Fenn on his helmet in the movie Platoon. According to some reports, they were even engaged at one point. Although their relationship ended, Fenn fondly remembers the time they spent together.

Thus, Barkin recalled that in the early stages of their relationship, Depp was “loving” and “seemed like a person who cared about the people around him”. But after they started a romantic relationship, everything changed. Barkin claimed that Depp drugged her, “there was always an air of violence around him” and he eventually became “controlling” and “jealous” and was “drunk most of the time”. Depp called the claims “false” and said Barkin simply held a grudge against him.
