New car sales growth continues in May
New car sales in the Netherlands rose again last month. According to industry associations BOVAG, RAI Association and data specialist RDC, 33,135 new passenger cars were registered in May. That is almost 42 percent more than a year ago.
As in the first months of this year, the growth is due to the delivery of outstanding orders from 2022. Last year, automakers struggled with shortages of computer chips and other parts, but deliveries have resumed this year.
More new cars sold
A total of 160,617 new cars were already registered this year up to and including May. That is almost 30 percent more than in the same period last year.
South Korean car brand Kia sold the most cars in May, followed by Germany’s Volkswagen, Japan’s Toyota and France’s Peugeot. The Kia Picanto was the best-selling model, followed by the Peugeot 208 and the Tesla Model Y.
