So many Red Cross ignoring Asos get thrown in the receipt every year
To quote Nelson Muntz from The Simpsons: “Há há!” Because laughing at other people’s suffering is not bad at all in this case. These two drivers ignored a red cross and found out that Rijkswaterstaat puts these things over the road for a reason.
A red cross is a red cross. Point! You might think Rijkswaterstaat uses them too often and too soon, but when they’re there you simply have to do what’s asked: move a job up.
Red cross around cobblestones on the street
Unfortunately, there are still too many motorists who don’t do this. People who feel the rules don’t apply to them and are in a much greater hurry than everyone else on the street. And they were severely punished this week.
On the A15 at the Benelux junction, a lane was closed with a red cross because there was a pavement slab on the lane. A number of drivers ignored this cross and…oh, wonderful irony…were stranded on the hard shoulder with damage to their cars.
Can we write this sentence gleefully and laughing in our fists? Yes we can. Boontje comes to collect his wages. More haste less speed. Etc…
Rijkswaterstaat posted a photo of the unfortunate drivers on twitter They added that they “have considered leaving her for a week.” Too bad Rijkswaterstaat didn’t do that. “The cleanup company is on the way,” they later wrote.
How many fines for disobeying the Red Cross
But how many fines are actually imposed each year for disregarding a Red Cross? More and more is the answer. In 2020 there were 4900, a year later even 5824. We don’t have any figures for 2022 yet.
The same figures also show how often an arrow car or a so-called crash absorber is hit: 22 times in 2020 and no fewer than forty times in 2021. However, it must be said that there was more road construction work this year.
The fine for disobeying a red cross is currently 260 euros. In the next year, all fines will be significantly increased, so you can count on an amount of 270 euros or more. The exact amount for this violation is not known.
