Why you can confidently call this Mercedes-AMG GT a pig

What a boar! What a pig! This Mercedes-AMG GT won’t be mad at you for saying so. Because the animal is even in the official name of this version: the AMG GT RS “Rote Sau”.

When you see a Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3, you don’t immediately think of racing. The stately 1968 sedan is big, heavy and clearly intended for long journeys on the Autobahn, not on the race track.

Predecessor Mercedes-AMG GT Red Pig

Nevertheless, AMG – still a small tuner in the early 1970s – used the 300 SEL 6.3 as the basis for a racing car, whose V8 was bored out to 6.8 liters for the occasion.

The 428 hp Mercedes had a short but surprisingly successful racing career, with a best result of second place at the 24 Hours of Spa in 1971. AMG built five examples: two test cars and three race cars.

The imposing size of the atypical racer and its bright red body color earned it the nickname: Rote Sau. And that comes back to this rare Mercedes-AMG GT variant.

Input from the Dutch company Bussink

Only five examples were built in collaboration with the Dutch company Bussink, known for the fully open Speedlegend. The red sow is based on the 577 hp AMG GT R, but after the necessary adjustments it delivers no less than 840 hp.

What is striking? The red color and of course the decals reminiscent of the classic racing cars from the seventies. The four additional headlights on the nose and the huge 50-year AMG logo on the roof cannot be overlooked.

One of the five Rote-Sau special editions is now available in Germany. It was built in 2018 and has only driven 3500 kilometers in more than five years. Of course, the car is not cheap. The seller demands 388,890 euros for it.
