You can also buy this Land Rover for the price of a Bentley Bentayga
Phew, old fart! You don’t pay 230,000 pounds (equivalent to 262,000 euros) for it, do you? Because for exactly the same money you can get a brand new Bentley Bentayga in the Netherlands. Or would you prefer this Land Rover Defender?
Land Rover can’t let go of the old Defender. The classic off-roader had to leave the field in 2016 because it became too expensive to meet modern safety requirements and emission regulations.
Land Rover Defender honoring the Scottish island
There has therefore been a completely new Defender since 2020, which has nothing to do with its predecessor and is perceived by critics as too much of a lifestyle cell phone.
Actually, this Land Rover Classic Defender Works V8 Islay Edition is like that. It’s being marketed to make tons of…er…Spencer Wilks, founder of Land Rover, and honor the Scottish island of Islay.
The special edition is inspired by the Wilks Series IIa, which is now part of Land Rover’s classic collection. The first prototypes of the original Land Rover were tested at Wilks’ holiday home on Islay in 1947.
Only thirty copies of the Islay Edition
The Defender Works V8 Islay Edition is a 5.0-liter, 410-horsepower V8 mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. Only thirty examples will be built, seventeen short-wheelbase and thirteen long-wheelbase versions.
The decorative panels on board are typical of a special edition. One of them describes how the name Land Rover came about. Another tells of the wool and whiskey industries on Islay.
You can also get a bottle of whiskey for 260,000 euros
Because yes, for over 260,000 euros you not only get a classic Defender, but also a bottle of whisky. A limited edition that buyers will hardly drink.
Of course, when they sell the car at auction in a few years, this bottle has to be with them. Otherwise you won’t get the main prize for it.
