This electric car charger is for extremely lazy people

When you arrive at work or at home, connect your electric car to the charger, for more and more Dutch people it has become automatic. However, Lotus is showing a robot where you no longer have to charge your electric vehicle yourself.

The brand shows its creation at the Shanghai Motor Show. The big car show will take place from April 18th to 27th.

Special charger for electric cars

The special charger that charges your electric car itself is more like a robot than a charger. The whole thing is on rails. The connector is inserted with a robotic arm. Subsequently, charging speeds of up to 500 kW can be achieved. While that is extremely fast, for example the Ioniq 6 reaches 300kW, the charging speed is not groundbreaking. After all, Tesla delivers the semi truck, which can suffer up to 750 kW thanks to special chargers.

The Lotus Eletre will support a charging speed of 420 kW and the charging station was developed for this car, for example. With such an eletre, there are already more places where you could reach the full loading speed. At least in China. On April 17, Nio installed chargers capable of charging electric cars with up to 500 kW in 12 Chinese cities, including Shanghai.

Is it really that useful?

These types of charging speeds will become more common in the future, although most electric vehicles charge more slowly. Simply because charging at home is much cheaper. A robot that plugs into an electric car may come in handy. However, such a robot arm costs a lot of money and is not really necessary. If decades later we still fill up our own gas, why not plug it in ourselves?
