It is of course difficult to design a distinctive electric car. A large grille is no longer needed to provide cooling air for the engine, which is still a landmark. But they all do the same thing, like these Chinese car brands…
The Shanghai Motor Show is in full swing. Spread over nine gigantic halls are numerous Chinese car brands that we have never heard of. Now that we’ve seen them all, we can’t tell them apart.
All Chinese car brands have the same appearance
Why? They all look the same, with a low, rounded nose, no big grille, and a pair of flat or pinched headlights. The silhouette of the models also corresponds, naturally inspired by the wind tunnel.
Admittedly, we hardly know the Chinese market and therefore do not know most of the car models, but the resemblance between all these sedans is very striking. As if they all came from the same designer.
Just a little more modern than western brands
Incidentally, it is striking that the drive to copy Chinese car brands is declining. In fact, western brands’ stalls in Shanghai sometimes pale in comparison to what domestic brands have.
As if the Chinese designs look a bit more modern and futuristic than what’s coming out of the design departments of Audi, BMW and Volkswagen. Perhaps less recognizable, but clearly looking to the future.
