Insuring your car is the most expensive in this Dutch city
Insuring a car can be expensive, especially when you are young. Not only is age a reason for insurers to charge you more, but where you live can also make a difference. But in which city is it most expensive to insure your car?
Autoverzekering.nl has researched the twelve provincial capitals and Amsterdam and analyzed which of the thirteen cities is the most expensive.
The Hague is the most expensive city to insure your car
The most expensive city to insure your car in The Hague. Residents of the city pay an average of 145 euros per year more for their car insurance than residents of Groningen.
Jerry Poel, car insurance expert at Autoverzekering.nl, says that several factors influence the difference: For the probability of damage, insurers consider, among other things, the number of inhabitants per square kilometer. The Hague is one of the most densely populated cities in the Netherlands in relative terms. Car crime is also relatively high in this city. This is also an important factor for car insurers when setting the premium amount.”
Premiums in Maastricht show a clear decline
Other expensive cities to insure your car are: Haarlem and Amsterdam. Lucky for Maastricht residents, research shows that car insurance premiums have fallen the most there. This year she paid almost 55 euros less than last year. In fact, Maastricht was the most expensive city to insure a car in 2018 and 2019.
Poel does not immediately have an explanation for the decline. “The number of car thefts has been declining for years, but in Maastricht we see that car thefts have even increased in the last year compared to other cities. Insurers often pass this on in premiums, so it is unusual for premiums in Maastricht to still show a decline. In general, owning a car is still the most unsafe in cities like Amsterdam, Utrecht or Rotterdam.”
