Forget Lynk & Co! You can also subscribe to this SUV
At least Aiways calls the U6 itself an SUV. We see it more as a Polestar 2-like sedan. The strikingly stylized electric car costs just under 49,000 euros in the Netherlands, but like the extremely popular Lynk & Co 01, it can be driven on a subscription basis.
A spokesman for Aiways told Autovisie that more would be known about the subscription within the next six weeks. The Chinese brand has seen the success of Lynk & Co’s ‘sales model’ and now wants a piece of the pie too.
For Lynk & Co you pay 550 euros per month
“We are in talks with partner parties and need to determine what the monthly price for an Aiways U6 will be,” said the brand’s representative.
You pay 550 euros a month for the Lynk & Co, including maintenance, road tax and insurance. You can then drive 1250 kilometers a month and pay 16 cents per kilometer. You can also cancel the subscription monthly.
Airways is not selling well at the moment
The Dutch are obviously interested, because no fewer than 12,000 Lynk & Co 01s have been registered in three years. For the time being, Aiways can only dream of such figures.
The brand will not get past 450 cars in the Netherlands in four years, 428 of them in 2020. Then the Aiways U5 was suddenly popular because of the small addition. In 2022, Aiways only sold one.
Aiways U6 to compete with Polestar 2
The hope therefore rests on the Aiways U6 Coupé, as the model is called by its full name. We called it a sedan in the intro of this story, but strictly speaking it’s not. It has a large fifth door that gives access to the luggage compartment.
It is visually reminiscent of the Polestar 2 with its blunt lines, slightly higher ground clearance and “rough” plastic edges around the wheel arches.
Up to 400 kilometers with one battery
The 218 hp and 315 Nm strong Aiways has a 63 kWh battery with which it can travel a maximum of 400 kilometers. The Polestar has a range of no less than 518 kilometers with a 69 kWh battery.
Fast charging isn’t the U6’s forte. It reaches its maximum at 90 kW, the standard version of the Polestar has 135 kW, the Tesla Model 3 / Model Y – also a competitor – has a whopping 250 kW.
