Will this be the people’s electric car?
More and more electric cars are being sold. In all likelihood, a large part of the Netherlands will drive an electric vehicle in the future. But what will the new people’s car be? The Volkswagen ID.2, the Renault 5 or another model?
Much of the success of cars like the VW Beetle, VW Golf and Toyota Corolla and Ford Fiesta (to name a few top sellers) is down to price. The availability of a model is largely responsible for the sales figures.
Volkswagen ID.2 or Renault 5
Electric cars are currently still expensive, but that should change in the future. For example, Volkswagen is working on the ID.2, a model that will cost less than 25,000 euros. Renault, in turn, comes with the 5 Series, which should be about the same price.
The production costs of the French electric car are at least 30 percent lower than those of the Zoe. The model currently has a price of 34,895 euros and is simply too expensive for many. Also, the design of the Renault 5 is much more appealing.
The Renault 5 is on the CMF-B EV platform. This platform consists of 70 percent parts of the CMF-B platform, on which the Clio V and the Captur II, among others, are based. The remaining 30 percent are new.
But what will people’s electric car be?
That’s hard to predict, but the ID.2 and Renault 5 are both good contenders. However, Renault argues that their model should be priced below that of the competition. It is still unclear whether you will give something – and what – for this. Not much is known about the electric Renault 5 yet. However, we already know more about the ID.2. For example, we know that the electric B-Segmenter has a range of up to 450 kilometers. In the video below, Autovisie editor Coen Grutters tells you all about the electric model.
