New EU rules make life easier for electric car owners
Driving an electric car has advantages. So it’s quiet and often fast. However, charging remains a pain point when you’re going on a long car ride. After all, it’s slower than refueling, so you sometimes have to wait a long time or queue. New EU regulation aims to make life easier for electric vehicle owners.
The European Union is committed to electric cars to make it easier to achieve CO2 targets. That is why there are all kinds of subsidies and rules. Now something is added.
The EU introduces new rules for paying at a charging station
The new rules of the European Union deal with charging stations. Electric car owners need a better overview of how much they have to pay at a charging station. Payment should also be made easier.
To charge at a public charging station, you first need a charging card or app. The new European law states that it should be possible to pay with your debit card, credit card or telephone. This makes loading much more accessible.
More charging stations for electric cars
In addition to easier charging, there will also be more charging stations. Every 60 kilometers you will find a place to charge cars on the main European roads. This must be settled by 2026. From 2028, a truck must be able to charge its battery every 120 kilometers. The supply of hydrogen must be so large in 2031 that you can refuel every 200 kilometers.
All measures must prevent “green Saturdays”, short charging station traffic jams and charging station stress – and promote emission-free driving. In the Netherlands you are already at the right place as an electric car owner. The Netherlands has the most public charging stations in all of Europe. There are more fast charging stations in Germany, although this country is of course much larger. In short, not much more needs to be done in the Netherlands because of the new European law. In countries like France (to give just one example), where many important European roads pass, there is still a lot to do!
