Problems with the Lucid Air? Hundreds of cars recalled
Lucid has recalled hundreds of cars. What is behind the recall of the Lucid Air models?
The manufacturer recalled 637 cars after encountering an issue where Lucid Air models shut down unexpectedly. That sounds more serious than it is. The problem is quite easy to solve.
Lucid Air models turn themselves off
A car that turns itself off can be quite risky on certain roads. Fortunately, in this case it is possible to continue driving with the electric vehicles. In addition, in some cases the Lucids can be restarted immediately, after which you can continue.
The error is caused by a switch purchased from a third party. The component closes a circuit when the car starts and opens it when the car is switched off. The switch thus controls the current that flows to the electric motor.
spring too strong
The problem lies in a simple spring designed to hold the switch open when the Lucid Air is off. The spring is so strong that it tends to open the switch while driving, causing the car to stop.
The problem is known in 273 copies. You must come to a workshop where the switches will be replaced free of charge. A simple solution. The owners of the other 336 vehicles will be contacted. A software update must first be used to check whether the problem also occurs in these vehicles. It is not known if this issue will also affect the more than twenty Lucid Air models that currently have Dutch license plates.
More than six hundred cars is a lot compared to the several thousand Lucids produced so far, but still manageable in terms of costs and absolute numbers. Not so with Tesla, which recently had to “recall” hundreds of thousands of cars. Luckily for Tesla (and other electric vehicle manufacturers), problems with electric cars can often only be fixed with a software update.
