Never heard of Veritas? That’s very good. The German brand Veritas didn’t exist very long – from the late 1940s to the early 1950s – and mainly built racing cars with BMW technology.
Veritas SP90 is unique (on several levels)
This Veritas SP90 is a one-off. It started out as a standard SP90 in 1949, but was later outfitted with a rather remarkable bodywork by coachbuilder Spohn.
1951 General Motors Le Saber concept
The inspiration for this creation was apparently the 1951 General Motors Le Saber, a concept car by design legend Harley Earl. The futuristic roadster heralded the American trend of rear wings and heavily chromed noses.
The back of this Veritas in particular resembles the Le Sabre, with a sort of jet engine in the middle and three small lights on each wing. What Spohn wanted to achieve with the front of the SP90 is a mystery to us.
Six-cylinder in-line engine from BMW with 100 hp
Originally, the SP90 appears to have been turquoise, with Cadillac-style sombrero hubcaps. The strange horizontal grille on the hood is fake. Behind it is a 2.0-liter six-cylinder in-line engine from BMW with an output of 100 hp.
The car is currently being restored
The Veritas was built in Germany, probably for a German buyer. Then it came into the hands of an American soldier who brought it to the United States in the early 1950s.
According to current sellers, the car is currently undergoing a restoration. Anyone who pays the asking price of 349,000 euros for the SP90 can choose the body color themselves, according to the sales advertisement.
Since the Veritas is in the photos, you won’t get it. But you have to love unique cars very much to pay so much money for this ugly one.
