The Australian company Acusensus is working on a mobile speed camera that can detect whether someone has consumed alcohol or drugs. The company does this in partnership with the National Bureau of Road Safety and Griffith University.
These speed cameras can see if you’ve been drinking
The speed cameras that can detect if you are under the influence of alcohol use a complicated technique. With the help of artificial intelligence (AI), attention, reaction time, speed and the control of the car are examined. By using AI, the software learns from previous drunk drivers and the technology keeps getting better at spotting offenders.
If a speed camera detects that you are driving under the influence of alcohol, you will not receive a fine at home like a normal speed camera. The information captured by the speed camera is relayed to the police within seconds. They can then arrest and test a driver.
These are initially mobile units that are placed along the road in Australia. Permanently installed speed cameras of this type can also be installed later.
Not the first intelligent speed camera
It’s not the first time the company has developed an innovative speed camera. For example, Acusensus already makes speed cameras that check cell phone use and seat belt use.
20 percent fewer road fatalities
