Is this possible!? Dodge Challenger is making mincemeat out of Tesla Model S Plaid
Well it really is. The newest and craziest Dodge Challenger is faster than the equally bizarre Tesla Model S Plaid. And it’s just a production version that Dodge builds itself.
The Dodge Challenger is the ultimate American muscle car. In the past few years, Americans have released numerous insane versions, but the latest version really beats everything. This is the SRT Demon 170!
Power Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170
This suffix 170 refers to the Hellephant C170 ‘Crate’ engine in question. Dodge has proven what this powerplant is capable of in the past, but for this Challenger SRT Demon 170 they’ve added a huge supercharger, a new cylinder head, better fuel injectors and a tweaked throttle body. The result is – at best – an insane 1025 American horsepower. This makes it the most powerful Dodge ever built from the factory.
At least if you fill the petrol tank with E85. If you pump E10, the SRT Demon 170 “only” squeezes 900 American horses. The bizarre thing is: all this power still goes only to the rear wheels, as it should be for a Challenger. If you want to use all the power, you would do well to leave the special 315 millimeter wide tires on the 17-inch alloy.
Sticky Tires
These are special and extremely sticky tires for the drag strip that provide optimal traction. Then, when all the stars are in the right position, Dodge says this Challenger SRT Demon 170 sprints to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 1.66 seconds. Crazy! The Tesla Model S Plaid does the same trick in 1.99 seconds (with regular tires, that is). Whether the Challenger can actually live up to that remains to be seen. In any case, we are patiently waiting for the first pictures.
The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 is therefore an amazing farewell model for a large series of muscle cars. That’s why this amazing model is being built in a limited edition. Although that’s still okay. Dodge announces that it will build a total of 3,300 units of the SRT Demon 170. 3000 remain in the United States, 300 are destined for the Canadian market. Prices start at just over $96,000 or just under €90,000. Not a crazy amount for so much power!
