This will be the electric alternative to the Kia Sportage: the EV5
It can’t stop at Kia. Having recently presented the production version of the large EV9, it now shows a concept of the EV5. A very interesting car because it is a model with Kia Sportage dimensions.
You shouldn’t have missed the fact that Kia is making great strides when it comes to electric driving. The Koreans were there early on with models like the Niro and Soul, but the EV market is really taking off with the EV6, which will be presented in 2021. It has now arrived at the second Niro generation, is ready for the EV9 and is now presenting a more compact SUV: the EV5.
Dimensions
The EV5, as the name suggests, is a smaller model than the 5 meter long EV9. Think of it as the electric equivalent of the Sportage, Kia’s popular mid-size SUV. We don’t yet know what the dimensions of this EV5 are, but rest assured they will fit this model.
In terms of design, however, there is a completely different car than the Sportage. Just like the EV9, this EV5 is drawn using the Opposites Unite principle. Sounds very expensive, but actually means that Kia uses contrasting shapes. Like the EV9, the EV5 is very boxy in some areas and contains a lot of folds, but the sides of the car are designed very quietly.
reverse way
It looks like a concept car, but we don’t expect the final production model to be much different. After all, the Kia EV9 is also as good as a copy of its study model, so the same will probably happen with the EV5. Fun fact about the EV9: Kia based the concept car shown in 2022 on the production model that it had drawn much earlier. So it actually went in the opposite direction. Apparently that’s what happened to this car too.
What doesn’t return to the production model is the EV5 Concept’s futuristic and minimalist interior. Expect a dashboard similar to that of the EV9. The swiveling front seats don’t return either. Finally, we saw that in the concept version of the EV9 too, but in the production version of this car, only the second-row seats are reversible.
That can also happen with this EV5. In the pictures we see a rear seat with a real table, which could indicate a final third row of seats. The Sportage doesn’t have that, but the electric architecture and larger interior can make it possible in this car.
Specifications Kia EV5
Kia has not yet given any specifications. That’s not surprising as it didn’t even share the details of the already unveiled EV9.
By the way, Kia reports that this EV5 Concept is intended for the Chinese market. The production version for this market will appear later this year. Then it will also inform you in which other markets it will launch this EV5. Given Kia’s success in our country, we can say with certainty that this EV5 will also come to the Netherlands.
