From almost dead to very much alive: SsangYong plans 16 models
Times have been tough for Korean company SsangYong, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. After being acquired by vital KG Group, the company plans to bring 16 new models to the Seoul Mobility Show.
All these cars will probably no longer bear the SsangYong name. As mentioned, the brand has been taken over by the KG Group and this party also wants to put its name on the brand’s cars. Soon it will be done under the name SsangYong. New models all bear the name KG Mobility.
Tivoli
So 16 new models, although the manufacturer states that they are mainly concept cars. For example, behind the scenes SsangYong is working on a compact SUV and a successor to the Tivoli. However, one model is already ready for a market launch, including in Europe and the Netherlands.
It’s the Torres, a car we’ve known for a long time. More precisely, it concerns the Torres EVX, the all-electric variant of the large SUV. The EVX has a distinct look that sets it apart from the combustion engine versions.
Jeep style grille
The Torres is larger than the Korando (which we also know with electric drive in the Netherlands), but slightly smaller than the Rexton. Unique to the EVX variant is a significantly different front. Where the combustion engine variant has a “Jeep-like” grille with vertically placed bars, the EVX has a narrow LED strip that stretches across the entire front of the car. However, the LED strip is broken in the middle where the grille is.
Where daytime running lights and headlights are placed side-by-side on the regular Torres, the EVX has a split setup. The headlights on this version are much lower at the front. The entire front apron also has a different design.
New SUVs
SsangYong or KG Mobility do not show pictures of the buttocks yet. We’ll have to wait a little longer for that. The Seoul Mobility Show will take place between March 30th and April 8th, when the manufacturer will reveal more. So expect plenty of new SUVs from the brand too, showing something of the near future.
