Why you could easily run out of car sickness in the Kia EV9
One of the most important tips against motion sickness is not to read or play, but to look at a point far in front of the car. So in the direction of travel. And that’s not always possible on the second row of seats in the new Kia EV9. More on that later…
The Kia EV9 is a large six or seven seater with electric drive. It looks wonderful like two water drops on the Kia Concept EV9 that the brand unveiled in November 2021.
Electric Kia EV9 in robust Tonka design
That means there’s a rugged SUV with a distinct Tonka design. It looks sleek and clean, with prominent headlights and taillights and just a hint of Kia’s so-called Tiger Nose grille.
Because yes, the EV9 is electric, so there’s no need for a large vent at the front. Kia isn’t yet revealing exactly what technology is hidden under the body, but we do know that the EV9 is based on the well-known E-GMP platform.
Same platform as Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5
The Kia EV6, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Hyundai Ioniq 6 also use this. They have an 800-volt electrical system that enables super-fast charging (the EV receives 240 kW on a fast charger).
The EV9 will also have this technology on board. The power of the electric motors and the electric range remains a guess for the time being. Kia will release all the information later this month.
Third row of seats with space for taller people
We don’t know how long the SUV is, but we estimate it to be around 5 meters, since the interior has space for three rows of seats. According to Kia, the EV9 has a long wheelbase and a completely flat floor, meaning there’s plenty of room for passengers.
Kia claims that the third row of seats is not only suitable for children and small adults, but also for taller people. The EV9 can be ordered with six or seven seats.
With the Kia EV9 with your back to the direction of travel
The first and second row seats can be reclined during loading. Drink holders and cell phone charging stations are available even for third-row passengers.
In the second row, the seats can be rotated 180 degrees so that the people in the back can face each other. Very comfortable but if you are sensitive to motion sickness we would leave the seats facing forward.
Dashboard consists of three digital screens
The dashboard consists of two 12.3-inch screens with a third, smaller display in between. According to Kia, there are haptic buttons under the screens for operating the air conditioning and the multimedia system. So no physical buttons. Shame.
