Why you shouldn’t call the half-million-euro Ferrari Purosangue an SUV!

Why you shouldn’t call the half-million-euro Ferrari Purosangue an SUV!

Calls from the customer base for a more versatile model could no longer be ignored by Ferrari. With four seats and four powered wheels, the FF and GTC4 have already taken a step in the right direction, but now is the time for a Ferrari that really can do it all. That also means four doors and a little more ride height for easier entry and the ability to respond to any type of terrain.

The result is this Purosangue that Ferrari believes can be called anything as long as it’s not “SUV”. Very special are the first rear doors from Ferrari, which can be opened opposite and wide for a very spacious entry. A nice bucket seat and ample living space are reserved for all four occupants. With 473 liters of luggage space, it holds about as much as an average mid-size car.

As befits a touring Ferrari, the Purosangue has a V12 executioner under the long hood, which impresses both with its staying power and its enormous pulling power at low revs. And not to forget a beautifully full soundtrack. Tucked deep into the bulkhead to optimize weight balance. For the same reason, the lightning-fast eight-speed dual-clutch automatic sits directly on the rear axle. The power of 725 hp and 716 Nm is mainly sent to the rear axle, but a separate three-speed gearbox up front can send the power to the front wheels for better traction and stability if desired.

The chassis differs from all previous cars in that it has shock absorbers connected to an electric motor that can both dampen movements and exert forces on the wheels or the body. As a result, the control electronics keep the car level when driving hard, but normally achieve an admirably soft suspension comfort. Complemented by all-wheel steering, the Ferrari Purosangue is unprecedentedly light-footed and easy to drive for such a heavy car.

In good tradition, the behavior of the engine, transmission, chassis and additional electronics can be set to the desired position with a knob on the steering wheel. Now with additional pressure function to select the hardness of the chassis separately. There is no other car that combines so much driving pleasure with so much (practical) comfort, which puts the proud price of half a million euros into perspective.

Quite a queue

Apparently more people think so because the snake has now grown to more than a year and a half. In any case, we can pass this waiting time for you with a detailed test video of the Ferrari Purosangue, in which we show all sorts of details and, above all, make a nice drive in the beautiful Italian Dolomites.
