Dominant Verstappen wins in Bahrain, De Vries outside the points
Max Verstappen confidently won the opening race of the Formula 1 season. The two-time world champion drove safely to victory at the Bahrain Grand Prix. Nyck de Vries ended up outside the points on his debut for AlphaTauri.
Verstappen led almost the entire race at the Sakhir circuit. The Dutch Red Bull driver started from pole position and quickly built up a generous lead. Only at his first pit stop after fourteen laps did Verstappen give up the lead.
Max Verstappen wins in Bahrain
His Mexican teammate Sergio Pérez was second by 12 seconds, with Fernando Alonso third on his debut for Aston Martin. The 41-year-old Spaniard had to give Verstappen more than half a minute.
