With this Mercedes-AMG you are as cool as absolute zero!
Choice: You get the entire modern AMG range or you just get this Mercedes-Benz AMG 6.0 “Hammer” Coupé. We haven’t calculated it exactly, but in terms of value, it’s closer than you think.
We don’t have to think for a second: we want the “Hammer”. Although the bizarre price is pretty much against us. The 1991 Mercedes-Benz 6.0 AMG Widebody Coupé will be auctioned in the USA and is expected to fetch between 700,000 and 800,000 euros.
The Mercedes-AMG 6.0 “Hammer” Coupé is sooo cool!
With that in mind, today we have two pieces of evidence that prices are skyrocketing on younger classics. Read our story about the Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 that sold for €670,000 last weekend.
At minus 273.15 degrees Celsius, anyone who owns an AMG “Hammer” or has opted for one is as cool as absolute zero.
Naturally aspirated 6.0 liter M119 V8 with 380 hp
This 6.0 comes from a time when AMG was not yet part of the Mercedes group. And that everything was possible with the tuner back then is shown by the engine in this “hammer”: the atmospheric 6.0-liter M119 V8 from AMG itself with 380 hp.
This widebody coupe is based on the CE 300-24, the most powerful 1991 W124 E-class coupe, which had a 3.0-liter straight-six with “only” 220 hp. AMG’s M119 V8 is based on the 5.0-liter engine from the SL 500.
AMG body kit with strongly flared wheel arches
AMG has not only tackled the engine, but also the chassis. The rear suspension – now with a limited-slip differential between the drive shafts – has been tightened to prevent the “Hammer” from hanging in the rear under hard acceleration.
Appearance has not been forgotten. The 6.0 was given a body kit with, among other things, strongly flared wheel arches and a rather subtle rear spoiler. It stands on three-piece 17-inch OZ AMG Aero III wheels.
Unique specifications and extremely low mileage
Normally ‘Hammer’ are black. This is executed in the beautiful color Nautical Blue Metallic, which is also reflected in the interior. Other changes include the smaller steering wheel, white gauge and upgrade to walnut wood on the dashboard.
This specimen is said to come from Japan. Its unique equipment and the low mileage of only 36,701 kilometers make this “hammer” irresistible. But the expected yield is very extreme!
