This Ferrari model costs as much as a Mitsubishi Space Star

We understand that someone likes the Ferrari Daytona SP3. We even understand that the Daytona SP3 makes someone greedy. But we don’t understand why anyone would pay almost 13,500 euros for a scale model of a Daytona SP3’s engine.

We’re clearly not rich enough for this. Don’t get us wrong: what emerges from the Amalgam collection is a marvel of craftsmanship. The company’s scale models are beautiful. But a V12 and a 43-centimetre gearbox for 13,495 euros… Who’s buying that?

Ferrari model in an edition of 599 pieces

Well, at least 599 wealthy collectors. Because Amalgam makes so many copies of the Daytona SP3 powertrain. What are buyers doing with it? No idea. In your man cave maybe put it on the toilet bowl?

Either way, you have to really love the Ferrari Daytona SP3 to own this gem. The thing is not that small: 43 centimeters long and 21 centimeters wide. Four times smaller than the real SP3 powertrain.

Insane price due to many hours of work

Amalgam invested 3500 man hours in the development of the model. Creating a copy takes an additional 325 hours. That of course (partly) explains the insane price.

The model is based on Ferrari’s official CAD drawings and material specifications. The atmospheric powertrain has been faithfully recreated, right down to the tiny barcodes and stickers.

Ferrari Daytona SP3 from the Icona series

The real Daytona SP3 – of which Amalgam also has a 1:8 scale model, price: 15,550 euros – is powered by the F140HC, a 6.5-litre non-turbocharged V12 developing 840 hp. It goes to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds.

The SP 3 is the second model in the so-called Icona series, in which Ferrari brings classic racing cars and road cars into the present. The Ferrari 330 P3/4 and 412 P served as inspiration for the SP 3. The first Icona Ferrari is the Monza SP1 / SP2.
