In these 10 Dutch cities you spend the longest time in traffic jams
As a driver, you often get stuck in traffic jams in the Netherlands. At least if you don’t take peak times into account. The traffic jams are the worst in Rotterdam. In 2022, people there lost about 42 hours in traffic jams.
According to the manufacturer of navigation and navigation software TomTom, delays in Rotterdam have increased by around 25 percent compared to the previous year. Other major cities are not doing well either. The study’s figures come from data collected from the navigation systems in your car, smartphones and separate navigation systems.
In these ten Dutch cities you spend the longest time in traffic jams
Although on average you lose a working week as a driver in Rotterdam, there are more places where you get stuck in traffic for a long time. Den Haan and Nijmegen are also at the forefront of the congestion problem. In these cities, drivers lost 40 hours in traffic jams. The top ten are dominated by the big cities: Haarlem, Eindhoven, Arnhem, Amsterdam, Breda, Leiden and Tilburg. In these cities, traffic jams delayed motorists for 30 hours or more.

While you can stay on the tarmac for a long time in the Netherlands, the problem is much bigger in Dublin. In the Irish capital, people were stuck in traffic for 145 hours last year. Traffic flow is also bad in London. The average speed here is 14 kilometers per hour. The slowest city in the Netherlands, Haarlem, has an average speed of 43 kilometers per hour.
