The new Dodge RAM 1500 REV competes with Cybertruck

Dodge swaps the V8 in its RAM for an electric motor. A few weeks ago, Dodge showed off a concept electric pickup truck. Now the brand pulls the curtain on the production version called Dodge Ram 1500 REV.

The electric giant has to compete with the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Tesla Cybertruck. Visually, however, Dodge is taking a completely different approach than Tesla. Where the Cybertruck looks extremely distinctive and futuristic, the RAM 1500 REV stays closer to its roots. Just like them

Humorous advertisement

Of course we can’t call it modest, but it’s not very different from the RAM with a combustion engine. Of course, the design hints at its electric powertrain here and there. A bit like Ford did with the F-150 Lightning.

The general public saw the electric pickup truck during the Super Bowl. At least during the commercials a spectacle per se. Dodge aired a commercial titled “Premature Electrification”. If you haven’t quite figured out what the comparison is funny about, check out the commercial below.

Dodge believes its customers are concerned about range and traction. RAM CEO Mike Koval Jr. said, “We are in an exciting transition to electric propulsion, where we will outperform the competition in the factors that customers care about most: range, payload, towing capacity and charge time.”

Range of the Dodge RAM 1500 REV

If you believe what the brand has said so far, the RAM 1500 REV can drive more than 800 kilometers with a fully charged battery. Tesla claims an equal range with its Cybertruck. That would be significantly more than at Ford. With its F-150 Lightning, it promises a range of 515 kilometers, of which only around 370 kilometers remain in practice.

Fast charging is possible up to 350 kW. Ten minutes on the 800 volt DC fast charger would be enough to fuel 100 miles of range. Dodge doesn’t stop there. The brand will continue with its big promises. For example, the RAM 1500 REV would have the edge in terms of torque. That means the pickup could tow more than 6.5 tons. Tesla claims the Cybertruck can tow 15,000 pounds.

More information on the RAM 1500 REV will be released in the coming months, but you can already sign up for the electric Dodge. However, production is not scheduled to start until the end of next year. Perhaps by then the first Tesla Cybertruck will finally roll out of the factory for an interesting double test.
