The best-selling BMW M is electric
BMW M is the sports label of the Bavarian automobile manufacturer. Although the purist prefers to see the sports models with a thick six-cylinder in the nose and rear-wheel drive, most M models are fully electric.
The history of BMW M goes back to 1972, when BMW presented the first M automobile with the BMW 3.0 CSL. Since then, M has grown into a major player in the high-performance automotive industry with an extensive range of sporty and prestigious cars.
The best-selling BMW M is electric
BMW M sold 177,257 cars in 2022, almost 8.5 percent more than in the previous year. Most cars were sold in the US, followed by Germany and the UK.
“The best-selling M car of 2022 is the all-electric BMW i4 M50,” says Timo Resch, Head of Customer, Brand and Sales at BMW M. The brand does not say exactly how many i4s were sold. 2,747 i4s are on the road in the Netherlands.
The electric top model from BMW sprints from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.9 seconds. This sprint time is thanks to two electric motors that together deliver 544 hp and 795 Nm of torque. The top speed is limited to 225 kilometers per hour.
The bestseller M has a battery capacity of 83.9 kWh, of which 80.7 kWh can be used. According to WLTP, you can drive 510 kilometers more here.
The XM and the i7 M70 are still to come
It remains to be seen whether the i4 M50 will remain the best-selling BMW M. The XM and i7 M70 will be added in 2023.
With 748 hp and 1000 Nm of torque, the top model of the super SUV delivers more than a heavyweight – in terms of sales and driving characteristics – in this class, the Lamborghini Urus. Under the hood of the XM is a 4.4-liter V8 and an electric motor. The highest performing Label Red version of the XM will be introduced in Fall 2023.
