You want this occasion: Unique Mercedes is one of the first AMGs
You can buy a good Mercedes W123 – the predecessor of the E-Class – as a used car for less than 10,000 euros. Then why does this copy cost seventeen times as much?
The Mercedes, painted grey-blue, is for sale at Auto Leitner in Alkmaar. Enthusiasts will immediately recognize that the car is no regular W123, including the black grille, deep chin spoiler, multi-spoke BBS wheels and plastic rear spoiler.
The occasion is one of the first Mercedes-AMG models
If you look further, you will notice the type designation: 280E AMG. This is one of the first models to be modified by Mercedes tuner AMG. AMG has belonged to Mercedes-Benz since 1999, but the company was still independent in the 1970s.
According to Auto Leitner, this 1977 280E was brought to AMG by its first owner. That happened in 1981. Both the original purchase invoice from Mercedes-Benz and the used invoices from AMG are available.
AMG performance increase of 25 hp
At Aufrecht, Melcher and Großaspach – preceded by the letters AMG – the W123 received a power increase of 25 hp. The 280E’s 2.8-litre straight-six engine has different camshafts and now produces 210 hp.
Interior of the used Mercedes in the same color as the bus
The simple interior of the Mercedes, which is kept in the same blue color as the exterior, is simply beautiful. This was still very common in the 1970s. Why don’t automakers do this anymore? Eternal sin as far as we are concerned.
The finish of the dashboard with real wood and the ribbed velor fabric on the comfortable seats are also beautiful. Funny detail: The retrofit radio of the W123 Occasion has a front that matches the wood used.
Starting price Mercedes 280E AMG is not advertised
The 46-year-old AMG occasion comes from German ownership and has only run 123,000 kilometers in this time. The asking price is not tender. If you want to park this beautiful 280E in front of your door, you have to pay no less than 169,500 euros. Oof!
