Our garage looks a lot better because of this car
Ladies and gentlemen, we have it! Welcome Toyota GR86 to our garage. We will have fun with the rear-wheel drive sports coupe for half a year. Perhaps the most beautiful new car of the moment. Are we still thinking that after six months?
The Toyota GR86 is the latest addition to our endurance test fleet. It will certainly not be a garage queen, because we will cover many kilometers with the playful Japanese.
Our Toyota GR86
It is a GR86 Premium from 68,395 euros and in this Ignition Red metallic there is an additional 1395 euros. Then it costs almost 70,000 euros and half of that is taxes. Don’t look what the GR86 costs in the surrounding countries.
Compared to the Pure, it has one size larger wheels and grippier rubber. These forged 18-inch wheels are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 in size 215/40 R18. Too cheesy to emphasize the playful character? We’ll find out for you.
No navigation in the Toyota GR86
In addition, the Toyota GR86 has sports seats with heating, cruise control without automatic distance control, smartphone connectivity via a cable, automatic climate control, blind spot monitoring, parking assistance and LED steering lights.
The central screen, on the other hand, lacks a navigation function, but Apple Carplay and Android Auto should be available. Those are all things the purist should be aware of, because the GR86 is about other things.
Dear drinker
For example, the Toyota GR86 comes standard with a 10-year warranty, a six-speed manual transmission, a limited-slip differential, a naturally breathing boxer engine that revs up to 7500 rpm, weighs 1250 kg and has a low seating position.
These are all basic elements that can make driving so much fun and that are being offered by fewer and fewer brands. The 2.4 liter boxer engine delivers 234 hp at 7000 rpm and the maximum torque is 250 Nm at 3700 rpm. The disadvantage is that the four-cylinder makes some demands, because it prefers to drink 98 euros.
bang
The Toyota GR86’s cozy cockpit makes it a cozy cabin to sit in. With a low seating position and the steering wheel comfortably in front of your chest. Just as it should be in a fun car. Just like switching gears yourself, determining the distance to your predecessors yourself and no safety systems that constantly intervene or have to be switched off. It’s almost unusually delicious.
Smashing through a twisting mountain pass is an experience in the GR86, but it also feels special in normal traffic. For now, it’s all about enjoying the Toyota GR86. Do you have other experiences or similar impressions? Let us know.
