Dive into the price list: Peugeot 408, what does the special French cost?

Perhaps the most eye-catching new model Peugeot has introduced in years: the Peugeot 408. With a look at the price list, we take a closer look at the new model.

French brands have released enough quirky models over the last few decades, some of which have even become iconic. We’ve seen fewer oddities at Peugeot, among others, in recent years, but now they’re making another attempt with the Peugeot 408. Because what is that actually? No SUV, no sedan, no hatchback, no coupe, but according to Peugeot a little bit of everything.

Engines Peugeot 408

Technically, the Peugeot 408 largely corresponds to the 308. You can see that from the range of engines, which is completely identical. The range starts with the PureTech 130, a 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol engine with (ie) an output of 96 kW (130 hp). Above that comes the HYbrid 180, where the number in turn indicates the (system) capacity. The HYbrid is a plug-in hybrid based on a 1.6 liter four-cylinder petrol engine. Finally, there is also an extra powerful HYbrid 225 variant. All variants have an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.

Prices Peugeot 408

As the name suggests, the Peugeot 408 is positioned higher in the market than the 308. This is also reflected in the entry-level price. The Peugeot 308 is available from 32,550 euros, the 408 from 40,500 euros. Just above that is the entry-level version of the Peugeot 508 with a starting price of 43,500 euros. This makes the 408 primarily a kind of “lifestyle” alternative to the more practical 508. The 408 also offers a higher seating position, which appeals to many buyers.

The starting price of the Peugeot 408 also applies to the Allure. The equipment level Allure Pack is available from 42,500 euros and the top model GT from 45,200 euros. The HYbrid 225 is not available as an Allure, otherwise every equipment line can be combined with every engine variant.

Standard features of the Peugeot 408 include 17-inch alloy wheels, tinted rear windows, the signature Peugeot i-cockpit, keyless start, a 10-inch central touchscreen, navigation and an indoor air quality monitoring system. Of course, all kinds of assistance and safety systems are also available. The Allure Pack adds, among other things, 19-inch alloy, keyless entry and some assistance systems.

The top-of-the-range GT has a sportier look in detail, complemented by sports seats, a heated steering wheel, full LED matrix headlights, electric tailgate operation and a 3D instrument panel.

This time, let’s take the base model as a starting point for the configuration, the Allure. We are investing in hybrid technology, i.e. the HYbrid 180. This means that the starting price is 46,170 euros. Then we come to the body colors. The car is black as standard, with dark gray and light gray options at no extra cost. For a surcharge of 300 euros, there is a choice of white or dark red. The bright blue presentation color costs 400 euros extra. We go for red. There is no other wheel choice for the Allure, but the standard dark gray rims contrast nicely with the red color chosen.

In the interior, too, we are now quickly finished, because a black partial imitation leather upholstery is the only option for the Allure. The higher equipment lines alternatively offer black nappa leather (2,900 or 2,700 euros, depending on the Allure Pack or GT). For 2,950 euros, the GT also offers a grey-blue touch and contrasting stitching.

Lots of options

Finally the individual options. These are things like parking assistance (300 euros), anti-theft alarm system (400 euros), a factory-installed trailer hitch, which also immediately ensures an increased trailer load (790 euros, only PureTech 130), windscreen and heated seats (each 200 euros), an extra comfortable one , AGR-certified driver’s seat (500 euros), a more comprehensive version of the standard eCall system (200 euros) and a package of assistance systems (400 euros). We rely on the alarm system, the seat and window heating and the comfortable EGR seat.
