This electric car has the best range in winter
Electric cars have a specified range, which is rarely achieved in practice. Autovisie has found in practical tests that the range can drop enormously, especially at low temperatures.
Our Norwegian colleagues at Motor.no also experience this. Since the winters in Norway are a bit colder than in the Netherlands, the differences in range are even more measurable here.
This electric car has the best range in winter
The medium compared 29 electric cars with each other. The electric car with the best winter range seems to be the Tesla Model S. At temperatures between -10 and -5 degrees Celsius, the car lost “only” 16.4 percent of its WLTP range.
The Model S has a claimed range of 400 miles and came up to 330 miles in the winter. In theory, the Model S goes even further. The Tesla was only 98 percent charged before the test. The rest of the electric cars indicated 100 percent battery charge.
In the winter test, most electric cars achieved a range that was 20 to 30 percent lower than specified according to the WLTP. An outlier is the Mercedes-Benz EQE. With this electric vehicle, the range was reduced by 33.39 percent. The car was able to travel only 409 kilometers, while the usual range is 614 kilometers.
This is how well electric vehicles maintain their range in cold temperatures
Only the Toyota bZ4X scores. However, this model will soon receive an update. You can read about how this works in this article.
