Dive into the price list: NIO ET5 – should Tesla be concerned?
We recently met the brand’s SUV, this time we dive into the price list of the NIO ET5, the smallest sedan. Should the Tesla Model 3 be worried?
NIO debuts in the Netherlands (and some other European countries) with the ET5, ET7 and EL7. A compact sedan, larger sedan or compact SUV. Although compact, they remain models for the upper middle class. The comparison with the Tesla Model 3, Model S and Model Y is obvious and NIO sees these as the most direct competitors. With a look at the price list of the NIO ET5, we find out if Tesla should be concerned.
Technical data NOK ET5
Just like its direct competitor, the NIO ET5 boasts power and range. Even the standard version of the Tesla competitor delivers 360 kW (490 hp) and 700 Nm of torque, good for a 0-100 sprint in 4.0 seconds and a top speed of 200 km/h. Both the front and rear wheels are driven. Also standard is a 75 kWh battery, good for a range of 453 km (WLTP). A 100 kWh battery is available as an option, increasing the range to 590 km (WLTP). A variant with more or less engine power does not (yet) exist.
Prices NOK ET5
NIO offers the ET5 in one equipment line from 51,900 euros. You get a pretty complete car for that, more on that later. It is important to know that this entry-level price applies to the 75 kWh battery, which you rent separately from the car for 169 euros per month. If you prefer to buy the battery together with the car, the starting price is 63,900 euros. If you want the 100 kWh battery, the starting price of the car remains at 51,900 euros, but the monthly amount increases to 289 euros. If you buy the 100kWh battery, the total price of the car is 72,900 euros.
Whether renting or buying the battery is cheaper depends on how long you intend to drive the car. Buying is cheaper in the long run. Do not forget that when renting a battery it is possible to change the battery at a NIO exchange station. This is a one-time offer for now. It’s not only an alternative to fast charging, but also a way to only use the more expensive large battery temporarily, for example when going on a longer trip.
Transmission of the Tesla rival
NIO does not work with a conventional price list, but it does not provide a complete list of all equipment anyway. The main highlights are mentioned on the website: 19-inch alloy wheels, soft-close doors, sports seats, fabric covers made from recycled PET bottles, large panoramic glass roof, a 1,000-watt audio system with 23 speakers, a 12.8- Inch central display, extensive infotainment with “Personal Assistant” NOMI (Voice Control) and all kinds of safety and driver assistance systems, which also enable (partially) autonomous driving.
The eight driving modes are also special, including settings for wet, snow and sand. Such driving modes are normally only seen in off-road vehicles. As mentioned, there is only one equipment line and hardly any separate options.
Exterior decoration NIO ET5
According to the brand, the NIO ET5 is available in a variety of body colors “that are inspired by the sky”. This is in the color names like Cloud White, Stratosphere Blue and Sunbathe Yellow. Stratosphere Blue, a greyish light blue, is selected by default in the configurator. Options at no extra cost are white, black and grey. For a surcharge of 1,680 euros, you also have the choice between a darker gray-blue, orange, a green cast, a kind of very light brown and a soft yellow. You can also opt for slightly larger 20-inch rims for an additional 1,000 euros. Keep in mind that they also cost a few tens of kilometers of range.
Interior decoration Nio ET5
The standard choice for the interior is the Haptex fabric upholstery in black with “sand color”. Looks good. If you prefer all black, you can do so at no extra charge. Even black with very light gray (almost white) does not cost anything extra. If you want black with very light green, you have to pay 800 euros extra.
An alternative is a microfiber Haptex padding, which costs 1,000 euros more. This is available in the same color combinations, green costs 800 euros extra.
Separate options NOK ET5
As mentioned, there are hardly any separate options, but they are there. For example, a complete set of winter tires in 19 or 20 inches (2,500 euros or 3,000 euros). If you want orange brake calipers, you can do that for 500 euros. The last option is the Comfort Pack for 1,500 euros. These include a slightly longer bench seat for the front seats, seat ventilation and massage, rear seat heating, steering wheel heating and an “intelligent odor system with ionizer”.
