BMW will at least change the grille …

BMW adjusts the grille on several new models. Design boss Adrian van Hooydonk explains this in an interview with the BMW Blog.

The design department has had to take a lot of criticism for the ever-growing radiator grille in recent years. It is jokingly called “pig nose”.

You can now find this large grille on the 4 Series and the M4 and M3, for example. In these sporty models, the slats at the front are already large, although they are not yet the case with those of the 7-series. The luxury sedan is perhaps the most criticized design of BMW’s current lineup.

Although Bavarian brand Autovisie has said controversial designs are good for sales, it now appears to be moving away from the big grille.

At least on some models. In the interview, the designer says that the size of the grille is adjusted to each design. So you can distinguish the different models by the slats in the nose.

Talking is buying

Although the BMW M3 and M4, for example, have received a lot of criticism for the grille, Van Hooydonk has no regrets about the design. “We knew that if we made a change, people would talk. When people talk about your car, it’s not necessarily a bad thing. It would be bad if people were talking about your car but the car wasn’t sold. But they talk and buy.”
