Afeela is a new Japanese car brand: Sony and Honda are working together on an electric car
Afeela is the name of a new Japanese car brand. Sony and Honda join forces to build electric cars together.
Sony has been aiming for an electric car for some time. Last year, the technology company entered into a partnership with Honda. In the same year, Sony announced that it would launch two models: the Vision-S 01 and 02. The car brand did not yet have a name.
A new prototype called: Prototype
The new Japanese brand immediately managed to attract attention with a new prototype. They didn’t have much inspiration for the name of the concept model at Afeela: Prototype. The study model is much further than the study models that Sony has shown before. The question, however, is what the new brand will add to the electric car market.
Afeela Prototype does not have a unique design
If you look at the design, it can also be from many other brands. The car is 4.9 meters long, 1.46 centimeters high and has a wheelbase of 3 meters. The car is therefore comparable to the Mercedes-Benz EQE and Hyundai Ioniq 6.
The teardrop shape and continuous light bars are nothing new and the cameras as exterior mirrors also seem to be commonplace in the future. The 21-inch rims, which offer as little air resistance as possible, also catch the eye.
Nothing is known about the powertrain of the prototype from Honda and Sony. The new Japanese car brand says the EV is very focused on autonomous driving. 45 cameras and sensors, connected to powerful computers, should offer you a lot of help while driving. However, the car cannot yet drive fully autonomously – despite the lidar on the roof.
Level 3 autonomous driving is possible under good conditions. This means that the car can perform most driving tasks without human intervention. The electric car can brake, overtake, accelerate and corner without you having to do anything yourself. You must always stay behind the wheel and never take your eyes off the road.
Follows the new Japanese brand Tesla
The steering wheel that you have to hold is a so-called yoke steering wheel. We already know that from Tesla. We will soon see whether Afeela really builds on the success of Tesla. According to the new Japanese car brand, an electric car based on this prototype should go on sale in 2025. The first EVs will be delivered in America in spring 2026.
