Dive into the price list: get to know VinFast, the new competitor of Volkswagen, Audi and BMW
2022 seems to be the year of the new brands. VinFast will also try it in this country, with the VF 8 and VF 9. VinFast is therefore competition for brands such as Volkswagen, Audi and BMW. With a look at the price list and the configurator, we familiarize ourselves with the models.
Most newcomers to the European car market are Chinese, but not VinFast. This brand comes from Vietnam. The brand introduced its first models in 2018 and now believes it is high time to expand into the global car market. Since VinFast focuses on electrification, Europe is an obvious first step. Incidentally, VinFast is already available in some other Asian countries and the USA is also being planned.
The first VinFast models for the Netherlands
VinFast debuts here with the models VF 8 and V F9. Two SUV models, one for the middle class and one for the higher segment. The latter offers space for seven occupants and is therefore of interest to anyone looking for a really spacious all-electric car. It’s less than you think. Nice detail: the cars are designed by none other than Pininfarina.
Main specifications Vinfast VF 8 and VF 9
The Vinfast VF 8 and VF 9 are each available in two power versions and with two batteries. This brings the total number of versions to four per model. The VF 8 has either 260 kW (353 hp) or 300 kW (408 hp), always distributed to all four wheels. There is also a choice of an 82 or 87.7 kWh battery pack, good for ranges of 400 to 471 km (WLTP), partly depending on the performance variant. For the sake of completeness: Depending on the version, 100 km/h is reached in 5.5 or 5.9 seconds and the top speed is 200 km/h.
The VinFast VF 9 always has 300 kW (408 hp), but thanks to a different set-up it sprints to 100 km/h in 6.5 or 7.5 seconds, depending on the version. Here, too, the maximum speed is limited to 200 km/h. More important is the choice between the 97 or 123 kWh battery pack, with which the range is 425 to even 594 km (WLTP).
Equipment Vinfast VF 8 and VF 9
As far as amenities go, VinFast lists few highlights on its website, but expect you won’t be short on amenities. The highlights in question then. The standard Eco version of the VinFast VF 8 includes 19-inch alloy wheels and electrically adjustable and heated front seats. The slightly more luxurious Plus version comes with 20 inches (optionally 21 inches) light alloy and a panoramic sunroof, automatically dimming mirrors, additional electric seat adjustment options, ventilated front seats and seat heating and ventilation in the rear.
With the VinFast VF 9, 20 inches of light metal is standard and with the Plus it is 21 inches or optionally 22 inches. The same applies to the seats as in the VF 8, but with an additional massage function in the Plus. The rear seat is also electrically adjustable as standard. Only the Plus is also available with captain’s seats, making the car a six-seater.
Prices VinFast Netherlands
According to current planning, the first copies should come to our country in early 2023. It is already possible to reserve a production site and the prices are also known. Starting prices depend heavily on what you want with the battery. Buy or rent? Renting the VF 8 costs 120 euros per month and the VF 9 costs 150 euros per month. It doesn’t matter whether you opt for the larger or smaller battery pack for the respective car. However, the larger battery pack means that the car has a higher entry-level price. Depending on the model, version and the choice between buying or renting, the additional costs amount to between 1,950 and 7,700 euros.
The VinFast VF 8 is available from 46,450 euros for battery rental or 62,700 euros for battery purchase. The Plus version is available from 53,600 or 69,850 euros. The VF 9 has a starting price of 63,250 euros (battery rental) or 82,600 euros (battery purchase). The Plus version is available from 71,500 or 92,400 euros.
Exterior decoration VinFast
For the exterior trim, VinFast offers a little more body colors than many other newcomers. There are eight body colors to choose from, regardless of the model and version. The standard color is black, optional white at no extra charge. You can get dark gray or silver for an additional 350 euros. For 750 euros extra you get dark green, orange, red or blue. The wheel choices have already been discussed, but you can see them in the image at the bottom of this gallery.

If you opt for the plus, you can also opt for light beige or dark blue for both models at no extra charge. The already mentioned Braun is of course also available for the VF 8 Plus.
