New Nio EC7: the Tesla Model Y competitor
Nio lifts the curtain on a new model: the EC7. The SUV with a sloping roofline is a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y
The Chinese brand’s electric vehicle is based on the same platform as the ES8. This model has also been updated. Technically, the large SUV is almost identical to the ES7, which comes to the Netherlands as the EL7. It is unclear whether the ES8 will also come to the Netherlands as the EL8.
Competitor Tesla Model Y
Back to the real news: the new model called Nio EC7. Competitor Tesla Model Y is the most streamlined and efficient electric SUV ever, according to the brand. The CW value is 0.23. However, the Model Y has the same drag.
Just like the American competitor, the Nio EC7 has a panoramic glass roof that is extra well insulated to minimize wind and other noise while driving. As we are used to from the brand, there is a large lidar and two cameras on the front of the glass roof.
The Nio EC7 is the brand’s fastest SUV. With two electric motors, good for 300 and 180 kW, the powertrain of both the ES8 and the competitor Tesla Model Y puts out 480 kW. Nio reports that the EC7 sprints from standstill to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.8 seconds. The ES8 needs 0.3 seconds longer for this.
Like the other Nios, the EC7 and ES8 have a battery pack with 75 or 100 kW on board. You can exchange these in exchange stations – also for a 150 kW model.
Nio EC7 and ES8 not yet for the Netherlands
The new and updated SUVs from Nio are not coming to the Netherlands for the time being. The ET7 is already driving around our country. Stijn Kuster takes you in this special electric car in the video below.
