This is the car Asterix and Obelix from Citroen

Citroën is a French brand with a rich history. A brand to be proud of and that’s the French. But perhaps the land of baguettes and red wine is even more proud of the comics of Asterix and Obelix, Europe’s best-selling comic series. Let’s just put the two together.

Asterix is ​​a French comic series that was eventually released in 70 countries and published in more than 100 different languages. A first film followed soon after. The series is still cult and a movie is even being worked on, which will be shown in France on February 1, 2023. Citroën is developing a concept car for this film.

At least a concept car. Asterix and Obelix’s vehicle doesn’t actually have much to do with a car. The Citroën is more of a two-wheeled carriage made entirely of wood.

“The meeting between these two legends of French culture could be nothing short of extraordinary because from the start there was a close, sincere and mutual respect between the Citroën and Asterix film crews. (..) The result is an ode to the 2CV, the iconic car that represents Citroën in all its glory,” said Pierre Leclercq, Global Design Director, Citroën.

Properties of the 2CV

Citroën’s Asterix and Obelix car therefore has characteristics of the 2CV. The chariot also has two round headlights and a carriage shaped like the ugly duckling.

Citroën still manages to turn it into a real Asterix and Obelix carriage with dampers made from boar gizzards and wheels made from recycled shields.

When can you see Aterix and Obelix’s car?

The Citroën concept car is used several times in the film. Although the film will be released in France on February 1st, we will have to wait a little longer for the film in the Netherlands. When exactly it can be seen in our country is still unclear.
