Top 2000 – As a car fan, you have to vote for these numbers!

Top 2000 – As a car fan, you have to vote for these numbers!

The voting box for the Top 2000 closes at 3pm on December 7th. So if you still want to share your music preferences, you shouldn’t wait too long. If you are still unsure about your selection list, let us advise you. Because as a car enthusiast, these hits should not be missing in the Top 2000.

A note in advance: we won’t be playing Radar Love by Golden Earring, Born to be Wild by Steppenwolf and Highway to Hell by AC/DC here. We try to stay away from clichés in our election advice. So you won’t find Drive by The Cars, Drive My Car by The Beatles and Autobahn by Kraftwerk below. But what then?

Love Shack – The B52s

The Georgia band is the only really big hit (if we don’t count the movie number (Meet) The Flintstones). But what does Love Shack have to do with cars?

You can hear that in the first verse: “I got myself a car, it’s the size of a whale. And we continue down to the love hut. I got a Chrysler, it seats about twenty. So hurry up and bring your jukebox money.”

Little Deuce Coupe – The Beach Boys

How simple can a song be. Little Deuce Coupe is about a young man who brags about the performance of his 1932 Ford Model 18.

“Well I’m not bragging baby so don’t put me down. But I have the fastest set of wheels in town. If I think of something, he doesn’t even try. ‘Cause if I had wings, man, I know she could fly.”

East and Down – Jerry Reed

In 1977, Smokey and the Bandit was an unexpected big screen hit for director Hal Needham and actor Burt Reynolds. Pontiac took advantage of it; the Reynolds character The Bandit drove a black Trans Am.

And also country singer Jerry Reed, who reached number two in the American charts with his soundtrack song East Bound and Down.

Cars – Gary Numan

Not a song about road trips or drag races, but about aggression in traffic. New wave singer Gary Numan was once attacked in London by other drivers trying to drag him out of his car.

He locked the doors and walked up the sidewalk. “Here in my car. I feel safest. I can lock all my doors. It’s the only way to live in cars.”

Approach the bumper – Grace Jones

Is this catchy 80s hit about cars or something else entirely? Just read the text. Pull up to the Bumper is full of ambiguity. “Driving through the streets of the city. waiting to come down Don’t you wanna get your big machine? Somewhere in this town?”

And also: “Put on my bumper baby. In your long black limousine. Pull up to my bumper baby. And drive in between.”

The Passenger – Iggy Pop

In the 1970s, Iggy Pop toured America and Europe with David Bowie. He didn’t have a driver’s license, so he had to sit in the passenger seat while Bowie drove.

He wrote The Passenger about it. “I’m the passenger. I stay under glass. I look so bright through my window. I see the stars coming out tonight”
