Team boss Binotto leaves the Ferrari Formula 1 team

Team boss Mattia Binotto will leave the Ferrari Formula 1 team at the end of this year. The 53-year-old Binotto has decided to leave the Italian racing team.

Ferrari report that the team boss’ successor is expected to be appointed next year.

Difficult decision for Formula 1 team boss Binotto

“I’m leaving a company that I love and have been part of for 28 years. I think it’s good to take this step at the moment, no matter how difficult this decision was for me,” said Binotto. “I leave behind a well-established and growing team. A strong team, I’m sure of it, to achieve the highest goals. I wish Ferrari all the best for the future and would like to thank the people who have shared this difficult but very fulfilling journey with me.”

There was some criticism of Binotto last season, who was blamed for a number of tactical errors. Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc finished second last season, well behind world champion Max Verstappen. Carlos Sainz, also from Ferrari, was fifth.

Ferrari won four races last season. Monegasse Leclerc was the fastest three times, once Sainz from Spain. In the second half of the season, the Italian team didn’t win a single race.

Binotto also experienced the heyday of Ferrari. For years Ferrari was the leader in Formula 1, but in recent years the racing team has played a major role. The last world title by a Ferrari driver was in 2007 when Finn Kimi Raikkonen took the title. Between 2000 and 2004, Michael Schumacher was in a class of his own.

The new season in Formula 1 starts on Sunday, March 5th in Bahrain.
