The price of an electric car
Although the amount decreases every year, the average price of an electric car is still sky high. In 2018, for example, you paid an average of 75,000 euros for an electric vehicle, in 2021 it will still be 51,000 euros. But it’s not very cheap. This high price also has to do with the battery. Electric vehicle batteries are typically made from minerals such as lithium, cobalt and nickel. These substances are currently in high demand, which is why the price is rising.
Fortunately, it seems that electric cars will become much cheaper in the future. Scientists are now finding more and more new sources of lithium, which means that the high demand can be better met. If you own an electric car, you also have to expect some unexpected costs. We will tell you the most important ones in this article.
Limited loading options
This is a problem that all electric vehicle manufacturers face. In contrast to petrol stations, which can be found on almost every corner, there are only a few charging stations. In the Netherlands we are still reasonably well prepared with around 3400 public charging stations, but this number can also be much higher. As electric vehicles become more popular, charging options are likely to increase as well. In short, this problem will probably be solved in the future!
The range of an electric car
It should be clear that charging your electric vehicle is not the same everywhere in the Netherlands. That is why many potential buyers are concerned about the range of an electric car. And those concerns are understandable. In the US, for example, average range has dropped to 377 kilometers in 2021, compared to 416 kilometers in 2020. Of course, there are exceptions.
