If you want to buy a Porsche 959 now, you pay between 1 and 1.5 million euros. A pittance compared to what this specimen should do. Because this 959 has something special. And by that we don’t just mean its color…

The 959 was developed for Group B (the study model was even called Group B), but participation in the rally class was never to come. Group B was banned in 1986 after a series of fatal accidents involving spectators. The only motorsport success the 959 ever achieved was a victory in the 1986 Paris-Dakar Rally.

Porsche 959 as the fastest car in the world

The production version of the 959 was presented in 1985. There are two versions: comfort and sport. Both have a 2.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine in the rear, but the Sport is significantly more powerful at 515 hp than the Comfort (450 hp).

With a top speed of 319 km/h, the 959 was briefly the fastest production car in the world. It goes from zero to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds.

Porsche built 292 examples of the 959. Some were upgraded by American Porsche tuner Canepa. This green one is number three. It is finished in Porsche Emerald Green (a paint-to-sample color) and has an all-green interior.

Its power source has received better turbos and now delivers 811 hp and 813 Nm.

From 1 million to over 3 million euros

Of course, Canepa didn’t leave it at that. The chassis, exhaust, lighting and audio system were also improved. Funny, the 959SC, as Canepa calls the car, was on sale in August for just over a million euros.

It goes under the hammer at RM Sotheby’s on December 10th and now suddenly the expected proceeds are between 3 and 3.5 million euros.
