At Polestar they are surprised by this Aiways U6. Where’s the spy?
At Polestar, they immediately launched the internal investigation: where is the Aiways spy? Because obviously the designers of the Aiways U6 looked at the Polestar 2 with more than a crooked eye.
The Chinese auto industry is still a bit of a joke. Why? Because some Chinese manufacturers don’t care that much about intellectual property rights. The most notorious example is the Landwind X7, a direct copy of the Range Rover Evoque.
Aiways U6 competitor of Polestar 2
Well, we’re not exactly going to accuse Aiways of copying behavior, but the performers of this U6 must have looked at competitor Polestar. Because as you can see, the new model is very reminiscent of the Polestar 2, with a similar silhouette and the same crossover elements.
So far, Aiways has had only limited activity in the Netherlands; only the U5, an electric SUV, is available here. However, this Aiways U6 is also coming to our country.
It’s a higher-legged fastback/crossover sort of thing, aiming its arrows at the Polestar 2. The Aiways is 20 centimeters longer, but the specs are pretty similar.
Up to 400 kilometers with one battery charge
In the bottom of the U6 is a 63 kWh battery pack, with which it should be able to travel around 400 kilometers. The Polestar 2 Standard Range, which also has a 63 kWh battery, is only 40 kilometers further on paper. The two are also comparable in terms of power and torque: 218 hp and 315 Nm for the Aiways and 225 hp and 330 Nm for the Polestar.
When it comes to fast charging, the U6 lags behind: 90 kW. Even a current Opel Corsa-e/Peugeot e-208 is already faster with 100 kW. We are excited to see how the Aiways will fare in the Netherlands. With only 440 units sold in three years, the U5 is not a big seller.
