Nio stops production due to corona measures
The Chinese brand Nio has only just entered the Dutch market, but it’s already getting the buzz among car enthusiasts, journalists and manufacturers. A downside for the brand is that they have to stop production due to Corona measures.
It’s important to note that Nio builds its own batteries and cars. This makes the company more independent than many other (Chinese) car brands, but also more vulnerable if a factory or two closes.
Nio stops production due to corona measures
And that’s exactly what happened last Wednesday. Due to the increasing corona cases and lockdowns in the Chinese city of Hefei, two factories have to close temporarily. Production is temporarily suspended.
Local news channel 36Kr reports that the manufacturer has been struggling with production problems due to corona cases and lockdowns since October. A Nio representative told Reuters: “The news that production at Nio’s factories has been temporarily halted is true and will impact production and supply schedules.”
William Li’s brand delivered 10,878 cars in September, compared to 10,059 in October. That is a drop of around 7.5 percent. The manufacturer’s shares fell by the same percentage.
Delivery to the Netherlands
It is not yet clear when the Nio factories in China can and may run at full speed again. The impact of the delivery of the ET7, the brand’s first car in the Netherlands, is also still unclear. Autovisie is still waiting for a response from the Chinese manufacturer.
