Marcello Gandini has died: he designed these legendary cars
Legendary car designer Marcello Gandini died last Wednesday at the age of 85. The Italian designer made the automotive industry a lot more beautiful with his pencil strokes.
In the 1960s he first signed a contract with the design studio Bertone and later took over the management of the design department. He is responsible for an incredibly impressive list of car designs.
Designs by Marcello Gandini
We start with the years in which Marcello Gandini worked for Bertone. For example, he designed the Lamborghini Miura. According to many enthusiasts, this is one of the most beautiful cars ever built.
Around 750 copies of the Miura were produced. The model is now worth millions.
Together with Paolo Stanzani, Mercello Gandini designed the Lamborghini Countach for Bertone. Also a real icon of the automotive industry.
The successor to the Countach, the Diablo, was also designed by the Italian. In short, Lamborghini put many of Marcello Gandini’s designs into production.
Gandini didn’t just design very expensive super sports cars. We also owe his drawings to the Fiat 132, the Citroën BX, the first generation BMW 5 Series, the Maserati Shamal, the Maserati Quattroporte IV, the Renault 5 Turbo and the Renault Supercinq.
After his automotive career, Gandini also showed a completely different side to his design skills. For example, he designed the interior of a nightclub and the Heli-Sport CH-7 helicopter. Still, it’s the cars that have left the biggest impression on the world.
