Why Ineos should call its new electric SUV something else
The Ineos Grenadier is cool, but not ideal for the Netherlands, where it is punished harshly for its high CO2 emissions. In this regard, the Ineos Fusilier has a better chance of success.
The name of the new model is remarkable. A fusilier is an infantry soldier (the Princess Irene Fusilier Guard Regiment has existed in the Dutch army since early 1941).
Sounds like an execution
But we should also immediately think of the term “shoot,” meaning someone is shot by a firing squad. But hey, in England they don’t know this word.
Ineos Fusilier more compact
Back to the car itself. The Ineos Fusilier is smaller than the Grenadier, which is 5.4 meters long and 2.0 meters wide and high. Ineos has not yet announced the exact dimensions.
In any case, little is known about the Fusilier. It is electric, but there will also be a variant with a range extender. There is a small petrol engine at the front that charges the battery on the go.
Ineos Fusilier in autumn
Ineos does not plan to announce further details until autumn. At this time the Fusilier is also at the dealer (ours is Hedin Automotive in Houten). Nothing is known about the starting price of the Fusilier.
Price Ineos Grenadier
The Ineos Grenadier is available from 66,557 euros with a gray license plate. The importer charges 73,354 euros for the pick-up variant, the Quartermaster.
Private individuals must have a well-filled wallet, because with a “yellow license plate” it costs 180,000 euros and more.
Origin Ineos Fusilier
Ineos is originally a British chemical company. Jim Ratcliffe, founder and CEO, is a big Defender fan and was disappointed when Land Rover discontinued the model in 2020.
Ratcliffe tried to buy the Defender production line, but Land Rover put a stop to it. He then began developing his own off-roader, the Grenadier.
The car is named after a London pub where the idea came about. Land Rover sued Ineos because the Grenadier was too similar to the Defender. The judge didn’t believe that.
