Rust spots on the Tesla Cybertruck, photos of brown-red spots in the stainless steel of the electric car were posted in various forums. Tesla states that this is not the case.

At first there was great uncertainty about the discoloration on the body (photos). Some thought the electric car was actually rusting. However, not every Cybertruck had the stains and so a scenario was discussed in which iron particles got onto the car from the outside.

This last theory has now been confirmed by Wes Morrills via X (formerly Twitter). He is an engineer at Tesla and is primarily responsible for the reliability of the Cybertruck. According to him, it is just surface contamination. The stains can be easily removed.

Elon Musk also commented on the incident with the Tesla Cybertruck on social media. Under Morrills’ tweet (or should we call this “post” now), the CEO replied “Yes.”

According to Tesla, you can wash the stains off the Cybertruck at any time. The reports in the forums also show that the rust has not remained on any electric vehicle. This makes it clear that a stainless steel body requires more maintenance than a standard painted body.

For example, it is recommended to wash the Tesla Cybertruck with a pH-neutral shampoo and many more fingerprints will remain on the panels than with normal paint.
