Refueling is expensive, but electricity isn’t cheap either. How much does it cost to fully charge your electric car battery? In this article, Autovisie takes a look at the prices.

Fast charging is usually more expensive than home charging. However, sometimes there are exceptions. In August 2022, charging at Fastned was cheaper than at home. The price for one kWh at home was 0.77 euros. At Fastned you paid 0.68 euros per kWh back then.

But how much does it cost to charge the battery of an electric car using a fast charger? In this example, we calculate the average price you pay per kWh at home and the price at Fastned, one of the largest charging station providers. The car we use is a Tesla Model S with a 100 kWh battery. The battery is completely empty.

Then you will spend around 69 euros on a full battery for your electric car at Fastned. You pay 0.69 euros per kWh. Some providers allow you to take out subscriptions with a discount, but this is not included in the calculation.

This is how much it costs to charge your electric vehicle battery at home

If you charge your electric car at home, you currently spend around 0.36 euros per kWh. A full battery will then cost you 36 euros. That’s almost half the price! On the other hand, you have to wait longer at home until the battery is charged. You charge at home with a maximum of 11 kW. The Fastned masts have an output of up to 350 kW.
