Electric cars more popular in the Netherlands
Sales of new passenger cars in the Netherlands increased in January. It is noteworthy that electric cars (EVs) have increased significantly in popularity, reported the trade organizations BOVAG and RAI Association. “The electric vehicle seems to be gaining more and more ground,” says Bert de Kroon, chairman of BOVAG Car Dealers.
A total of 34,477 new cars were registered. This is an increase of 5.5 percent compared to the previous year. Compared to December, registrations have increased by almost 30 percent.

The market share of fully electric cars rose sharply. That was 25.3 percent last month, compared to 15.5 percent in January last year.
The proportion of hybrid vehicles rose from 36 percent in the previous year to 43.9 percent. The market share for cars with gasoline engines fell to 29.5 percent. A year earlier it was just under 47 percent.
Government policy
“We are starting the year optimistically,” says De Kroon. “Consumers want to become more sustainable and this is happening, but there is a strong need across the market for consistent and crystal-clear government policy. “Inventory is large, waiting times are short and the range is becoming increasingly diverse.”
The most frequently registered car brand was Toyota with 2,896 vehicles and a market share of 8.4 percent. The Tesla Model Y was the most registered model with 1,141 units or 3.3 percent market share.
