This is the first new Lancia in thirteen years!
Lancia left the Netherlands in 2017 and strategically withdrew to its home market with the now thirteen-year-old Ypsilon. With this new Ypsilon, self-isolation is over.
In fact, it can be said that Lancia retired back in 2011 because, in an extremely desperate attempt to boost sales, the Italian brand decided to “re-lancia” the Chrysler models.
Stellantis and Lancia and the new Ypsilon
When parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) merged with merger group Stellantis, we immediately wondered what would happen to the troubled brand.
Like Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Maserati, Lancia was more or less left to its own devices for years and hardly invested in new models from FCA.
Stellantis could have pulled the plug on Lancia, but the group decided not to do so. Just like Alfa Romeo and DS, Lancia has ten years to prove itself.
Three new models
Three models were used for this purpose: the new Lancia Ypsilon, the Gamma (a coupe SUV, planned for 2026) and the Delta (planned for 2028).
Well-known eCMP architecture
For the Ypsilon, Lancia has chosen the eCMP architecture of, among others, the Jeep Avenger, the Opel Corsa Electric, the Opel Mokka Electric, the Peugeot e-208 and the Peugeot e-2008.
Therefore, it is logical that the car will have the same specifications: 156 horsepower, a 51 kWh battery and a range of just over 400 kilometers. Fast charging is possible with a maximum of 100 kW.
Sporty Ypsilon HF
The electric Ypsilon will later be joined by a mild hybrid with 100 hp from a 1.2-liter three-cylinder with an integrated starter/generator. A fast, electric Ypsilon HF with 240 hp will follow in 2025.
Limited edition
The Ypsilon debuts as Edizione Limitata Cassina, an introductory version limited to 1,906 pieces decorated by the famous Italian furniture factory Cassina.
The seats of the Lancia Ypsilon Edizione Limitata Cassina are upholstered in ribbed velvet in dark blue. A color that appears in parts of the dashboard. The “coffee table,” as Lancia calls it, is funny.
The half that is closest to the passengers is covered in leather in the Cassina Edition. The cell phone charger is located just below the physical buttons for the air conditioning and sound system.
Ypsilon features historic Lancia features
If you look at the Ypsilon from the outside, you will notice the silhouette of the Opel Corsa/Peugeot 208. Nevertheless, Lancia has managed to create an interesting creation of its own.
The nose of the Ypsilon is dominated by two elements: the deconstructed “radiator grille”, which is reminiscent of the traditional Lancia grille with three illuminated LED strips, and the four surfaces below.
These are reminiscent of the air outlets in the bumper of the Fulvia Coupé Rallye HF and Fulvia Sport Zagato. The round, Stratos-like light units are noticeable on the back.
