Dive into the price list: Is the new Renault Scenic worth its price?
The new Renault Scenic is truly completely new and completely different from its predecessors. Does that make him more or less interesting? By looking at the price list we get to know each other better.
When it was introduced in 1996, the Renault Scenic, then known as the Renault Mégane Scénic, was quite an innovative car. After pioneering Renault in the 1980s with the large Renault Espace, in the 1990s it was time to create the compact MPV segment. The Renault Scenic wasn’t quite the first compact MPV (it was around in the 1980s), but it was one of the first to really make the segment successful in Europe.
The Renault Scenic
In 2024 the car market will look completely different. As car prices continue to rise, few families are purchasing a new MPV while SUV-like vehicles are becoming increasingly popular. With the previous model generation, Renault therefore decided to give the MPV SUV-like design features.
However, the new Renault Scenic (from now on without a dashboard) is no longer an innovative MPV, but a mid-range SUV like so many people now have. Whether this makes the car more or less interesting is up to the buyer. In any case, we will look at the price list in detail.
Engines and range Renault Scenic
The Renault Scenic is available with two powertrains: the EV60 with 170 hp and the EV87 with 220 hp. You can immediately see that the new Scenic is always powered purely electrically. The motor power is also immediately visible and the other number provides information about the size of the battery pack. The EV87 220 HP has a more powerful electric motor, not an additional one. Both models have “normal” front-wheel drive. In addition to the difference in performance, there is also a difference in torque: 280 versus 300 Nm. Both models can carry 1,100 kg (braked) on the hook.
You choose one of the two primarily based on performance and/or range. The EV60 reaches 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds and has a top speed of 150 km/h. The EV87 does this in 7.9 seconds and continues to 170 km/h. The difference in range is more important. The EV60 has 420 km, the EV86 625 (WLTP). According to Renault, anyone who only drives on the motorway can still expect a range of 260 or 370 km (WLTP). It is charged with 22 kW at a regular charging station and with 130 kW on a fast charger.
Prices and versions Renault Scenic
There are a total of five versions of the Renault Scenic. The entry-level model Evolution is available from 42,470 euros and only as an EV60. Above that is the Techno, which costs at least 44,970 or 47,970 euros depending on the drive.
The Esprit Alpine and Iconic are only available as EV87, from 49,770 and 51,670 euros respectively. This means that only the EV60 models are entitled to the SEPP funding of 2,950 euros.
Renault Scenic standard equipment
The new Renault Scenic is already quite well equipped as standard. Some highlights: 19-inch alloy wheels, full LED lighting, keyless entry and start, leatherette steering wheel, recycled fabric seat upholstery, 12.3-inch digital instruments, 9-inch multimedia touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Car, Heat pump, active indoor air purification. The range of safety and assistance systems is also quite comprehensive, including an emergency braking assistant that also detects cross traffic and driver drowsiness detection.
Given the SEPP funding, the EV60 models are the most interesting in terms of price, as the funding increases the price difference to the EV87 models. That’s why we also mention the most important additional equipment of the Techno compared to the entry-level Evolution model: adaptive LED headlights with high beam assistant, a 12-inch multimedia touchscreen with navigation, Google integration and voice control, a slightly higher quality audio system, wireless smartphone charger. , electrically operated tailgate, partial leatherette upholstery, additional USB ports and additional storage compartments. The regenerative braking system also has additional settings that you can set yourself.
Which one will it be? The evolution with some financial leeway to tick options, or the techno and then not being able to tick anything without foregoing the SEPP funding? Ultimately, we choose the latter due to the Techno’s more extensive standard equipment.
Outdoor decoration
Fortunately, the standard body color is not boring white, gray or black, but a bright dark red. We can’t choose other colors without losing the SEPP, but we will mention the options. For an additional charge of 400 euros, the roof can be painted in the contrasting colors gray or black. The body colors gray and black are available for an additional charge of 800 euros, and a contrasting roof costs another 400 euros additionally.
For an additional charge of 950 euros, white and dark blue are the last choice; for a contrasting roof, another 400 euros are added. Luckily red would have been our favorite anyway. The Techno doesn’t offer any other rim options anyway.
Interior decoration
As is often the case, we finished this quickly because there is no other option than the black/gray fabric/artificial leather upholstery.
Separate options
For the sake of completeness, we also mention the individual options of the new Renault Scenic. We could have gotten a panoramic roof for 1,500 euros. The Comfort Premium Pack is available for 900 euros, with heated front seats with a massage function and additional adjustment options. You can get a Harman Kardon audio system for 850 euros. There are packages for 800 and 1,500 euros that significantly expand the number of assistance systems. The last options on the list are all-weather tires (400 euros) and an additional emergency charging cable (500 euros). So we don’t check anything because if you forego the SEPP, they are relatively expensive options.
Assemble the Renault Scenic yourself
This means the price of our Renault Scenic remains at 44,970 euros or 42,020 euros including SEPP. How would you put together the new Scenic? Will you save even more if you choose the basic model? Or do you take advantage of the financial flexibility by adding some options? Or do you leave the SEPP as it is and opt for a Scenic with all the bells and whistles?
