Volkswagen kept this car secret from Europe
Last August we introduced the new Volkswagen Passat and were told that the model was not available as a sedan. This now appears to be incorrect. The German manufacturer kept a secret about a model (or Volkswagen Europe didn’t know anything about this model).
We take another look at the website of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, where many cars that are currently being put into production are being phased out. Usually these are cars made in China. In this case, a Volkswagen car is leaking.
The car that kept Volkswagen quiet
The car is a Passat sedan. However, in China the model is called Magotan. This car is only offered in China and does not come to Europe, Africa or North America (unless imported). The car is built by FAW-Volkswagen, the Chinese joint venture between VW and First Automobile Works.
The Volkswagen Magotan is slightly longer than the new Volkswagen Passat. The station wagon is 4.92 meters long, the Chinese sedan is 4.99 meters long. The car fits perfectly with all the other long sedans that are popular in China.
Under the hood of the Magotan there is always a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 220 hp. This powertrain is not available for the Passat in the Netherlands.
