Cheapest electric Volkswagen postponed due to relaxation of emissions standards

Volkswagen postpones the arrival of the ID.2. The brand’s cheapest electric is delayed due to the relaxation of the Euro 7 emissions standard.

The easing of Euro 7 is not yet certain. In any case, the European Parliament has already voted to relax the emissions standard.

Cheapest electric Volkswagen postponed

The easing has a direct impact on Volkswagen’s strategy. According to German Car Motor and Sport The cheapest electric Volkswagen is postponed.

The Volkswagen ID.2 was first introduced to us last March. The B-segment car is intended to make electric driving accessible to a wide audience. The manufacturer even mentioned a price of under 25,000 euros. There is a range of 450 kilometers.

Relaxation of the Euro 7 emissions standard

Although this is not expensive for an electric car, it is still cheaper to produce a gasoline car. Since the emissions standard is now expected to become somewhat more flexible, there is less of a rush for Volkswagen to bring a cheap electric vehicle onto the market.

According to the German medium, mass production of the cheapest electric Volkswagen will be postponed to 2026. Originally this was the year 2025. So no postponement for years. However, a relaxation of the Euro 7 standard gives manufacturers additional leeway in the transition to electric driving. After all, the pace is far too fast.

It remains to be seen whether the Euro 7 standard will actually be relaxed. In Europe, various committees and councils still have to vote. Would you like to stay informed about all the news about cars and the Euro 7 standard? Then subscribe to the Autovisie newsletter.
